Kalan Hooks
No Stranger to Hard Work and Commitment!
Kalan Hooks is no stranger to hard work and commitment! Hailing from Kansas City, MO, Kalan was interested in attending the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff after hearing about their amazing band: Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South! He auditioned and was awarded a band scholarship to play in the clarinet section, thus beginning his journey into the PRIDE.
He is looking forward to graduating this May (2022) with a degree in Multimedia Communications. Kalan feels prepared to succeed with the amazing support of his professors and his internship with FOX Sports from February 2021 to the present. During his tenure at Dear Mother, Kalan has hosted his own TV show, “Crunchtime w/ Kalan Hooks,” on the campus station. Kalan is also a writer for the UAPB Athletics Department and currently serves as the primary contact for the UAPB men’s basketball team, and both men and women track and field teams. He is the Historian/Reporter for NAACP, and a proud member of the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, where he serves as an undergraduate Board Member and Representative for Arkansas.
Kalan shared, “Before I came to UAPB, I was told that UAPB was a home away from home, but I never thought it would be what it is and how it shaped me into the young man I am today. UAPB helped me get started in my sports journalism career with the best hands-on experience and ongoing support from the Greater KC Alumni Chapter. The Greater KC Alumni Chapter fuels me to go harder every day and reminds me to remember always ‘who’ I do it for, and ‘why’ as well.”
